Music is a strange thing. Non-essential to life, but a major human endeavour throughout the world – fleeting, intangible, ephemeral… an alchemy of sound + soul! From the humble “seed” of a musical idea into to patterns of sound that move us deeply and create human connection. The lectures offer a curious exploration into the mysteries of music from creation through to live performance. How does music affect our brain? What are its key elements? What makes a great song? An inside look at composition and the creative process, sound production, and careful observations made during 40 years of music making and performance. Using lecture notes and a wide range of sound & video samples to illustrate – examples drawn from classical, jazz, choral, rock, world, and folk music – see and hear music in a new way!
